Rererere Birth

2023 / 3D Animation

The work Rererere Birth follows a hyper-realistic 3D animated woman through three acts: the latent phase, the expulsion phase and the afterbirth. In a voyeuristic birth scene, the viewer witnesses a kind of power struggle between an eccentric adult woman and the observing children. The children watch, react and comment with applause as a new baby is born. They witness the reproduction of an identical copy of themselves. Loops and repetitions create an organic indivisibility between bodies and dissolved individuals. A fictional theatre where time and space are broken, beyond the laws of logic. Her task is to give birth.3D animator: Jens Evaldsson / Choreographer: Anna Westberg /

Habitus
Gemenskapens Komposition
The Composition of Community

2022 / Photography. Diasec silicone mount, pigment print on acid-free cotton paper /
Dimensions: 150 cm high and 500 cm wide, 8 cm deep.

The white cotton underwear of the army are filled with bodies in various performative movements. Thin nylon threads, barely not visible to the eye, hold up the theatrical expressive bodies. Like the skin that holds the body together, the community also holds a firm grip on the group. The work HABITUS – Community Composition depicts a clothing style/code that prevailed for a limited, specific time at the Ljusbacken collective (where the artist grew up) and other progressive groups/communities in the 1970s. The work shows how clothing has been used as a means of power in different ways, in different societies. How costumes are used to clarify a specific affiliation and to reinforce a community. The work discusses issues of classification and group membership and refers to Pierre Bourdieu's concept of habitus, which in everyday language is described as external condition, appearance, and shape, but also how we create an image of another person. Habitus creates common ways of looking at the world and oneself.

Cry Prints is a work in progress and collection of sonograms of screams. Sonograms, a form of acoustic diagrams with three dimensions: frequency vertically, time horizontally and intensity via severity.

Crying activity has been studied as an index of infant well-being at birth, as a reflection of the physiological and emotional state of the baby. The research is now considered outdated, but Lombard's curiosity was piqued. Here, sonograms serve as a kind of symbol of the unknown in human beings.

In sonograms, the scream takes on another dimension, the sonograms are silent and resemble more abstract maps or projection surfaces to fill. They are ghostly and unidentifiable, yet they have a connection to a real infant and its cry, even though the human imprint is long gone.

This publication AAO takes its point of departure from another book, a book which I have related to in different ways. The AA Model (1977) which consist u-shaped interpretative parabola diagram, discussions about oppressive structures of the nuclear family or how long you should breastfeed your children, a kind of theoretical and practical handbook that was read and practiced in 1977–1978 at Ljusbacken, where I grew up.

Hexis2022 /3D animation / Loop in one minute

A loop, a room with moving figures, an activity, or is it a close-up of microorganisms? Physiological and emotional states are recreated, duplicated and digitised, just as the social staging of group therapy plays out and explores human drives in a physical space. Scenic parts and fragments are discarded and revised, fused and reborn. Always one, always all, over and over again. The term Hexis means 'state' or 'active state'.3D animator: Jens Evaldsson / Choreographer: Anna Westberg / With support from Kulturbryggan

2022 / Sound installation / Stereo, 3:48 minutes loop

The work brings together two very different phenomena, giving birth and performing on a stage, an unknown place arises, a kind of uncomfortable grey zone.

In the work SPLIT ANIMAL, Lombard asked women in labour to think about how they remembered they sounded and then collected sounds from staged birth situations.

The sound material was composed into a sound collage in collaboration with sound artist Francesco Torelli.

The Exclusion

2015 / 8 channel sound installation / Burnt ground and grass in a circle.

In the piece, The Exclusion, I want to explore the collective boundaries through laughter and wordless language. The laughter and the circle creates a stage in where I want to high-light the power struggle and ambivalence of being left out or kept in the society/collective. A laugh can be perceived pleasurable and inclusive and then a few minutes later the same laughter can be perceived as frightening and exclusive. The starting point for this work was a satirical joke about my mother in the book Fnitter – Even more giggles a fun book of Women from 1983, and the consequences of that joke. I was 9 years old at the time and I felt like the whole world was laughing at my mother for all eternity...

“Somewhere between running a gauntlet and a hys- terical burst of laughter. Where can the line be drawn between innocent laughter and oppressive mockery and what does this laughter mean?”

The Decision Process

2021 /
Video installation /
4 minutes loop.

A birth choreography without delivery. A crowd without empathy. The decision-making process is an intersection of a process. The artist's own artistic process that is ongoing, sometimes without end. A scene of life's ongoing decision-making. An eternal circulation. Does it really make any difference what we decide? Life's eternal circular scene, the indispensable time. The film deals with questions about decision-making: Who decides? Who makes decisions in your life? Who controls the big decisions? Is it you or a metahuman in a parallel world?

	Barnbyn 1947-2005

Work in progress.Barnbyn was an alternative educational experiment on Färingsö outside Stockholm. Barnbyn started in 1947 as a reaction to other conservative intuitions of the time which believed children with social problems should be punished to become better people.
In Barnbyn they believed that it was the context not the child that was the problem and worked on therapeutic forms of rehabilitation with children between the ages of 7–15. The leader of this initiative was Gustav Jonson, who became a parenting icon, participating in numerous television and radio program where people could ask questions around child rearing. Gustav Jonsson declared that Barnbyn’s primary mission was to care for society’s most vulnerable people, which was an ideological and ethical standpoint Barnbyn stood by until the project closed.
Barnbyn is an on going research project that investigates the personal stories, tales and documents from the period when Barnbyn was active. I am developing an interview series with Elias a boy at Barnbyn during the fifties, who called himself Barnbyn-Pojke. (The boy of the children village). Contrary to Jonsson’s ideals, Elias feels like Barnbyn stole his childhood.
